How do you plan a good team building day? Decide what you want from it, ask the group what they enjoy, and pick a provider who will work to your budget.

Know what the day is for

A new team might want to get to know each other. A busy team might just want a break. Be clear about the goal, because it shapes which activity you choose.

Ask the group

Send a short poll with three or four options. Include a quiet choice as well as an active one, so everyone feels they can take part.

Match the day to your budget

Prices usually go down as the group gets bigger. Ask providers what the price covers, including food, a facilitator and any hire fees, so there are no surprises.

Plan for the weather

Ask for a back-up plan. Good providers will have an indoor option ready for rain.

Follow up afterwards

Spend ten minutes at the end asking what went well. Share a photo or two. That small step helps the day mean something back at work.
