Weather and cancellation policies for adventure days

What happens if the weather turns, and how to read a provider's cancellation terms before you pay. Use it alongside the directory, then ask us if you would like help planning the day.

What happens if the weather is bad on an adventure day? It depends on the activity and the provider, so ask before you pay.

This guide gives general information only. Always follow the provider’s instructions and check the latest conditions on the day.

Which activities depend on the weather

Some activities are affected by wind, rain, fog or high water. Flying, ballooning, skydiving and paragliding depend on wind and cloud. Water activities can be affected by river levels, tides and swell. Land activities like paintball and quad biking usually run in the rain, but some courses close for lightning or very strong wind.

How providers decide

The provider makes the call, not you. They look at the forecast and local conditions and may decide at the last minute. A good provider tells you when they’ll make the decision and how they’ll let you know.

What to ask

  • What is your wet weather plan?
  • When do you decide whether to run the activity?
  • If you cancel for weather, do I get a refund or a new date?
  • If I choose to cancel for weather, what happens to my deposit?

Read the cancellation terms

Look at deposits, notice periods and rebooking rules before you pay. For group days, ask whether you can swap names or reduce numbers and by when.

If you’re booking weather dependent activities, allow a backup date. Many providers keep a few spare dates in the season for this reason.

What to do on the day

Check messages from the provider before you travel. Pack for the weather, including a dry change of clothes, and bring a plan B for time you might spend waiting.

In short:

  • The provider decides, so ask when and how they tell you
  • Check refund and rebooking rules before paying
  • Have a backup date and a wet weather plan
