How to protect your phone and valuables

What to do with your phone, keys and wallet on an adventure day, especially near water. Use it alongside the directory, then ask us if you would like help planning the day.

What should you do with your phone and valuables on an adventure day? Leave what you can, lock up what you can’t and ask your provider what they offer.

This guide gives general information only. Policies vary, so ask your provider.

Travel light

The less you bring, the less you have to look after. Leave jewellery and anything you’d hate to lose at home. Bring only what you need for the journey and the day.

Ask about storage

Many providers have lockers, a locked room or a safe place for bags. Ask what they offer and whether they are responsible for items. Some don’t take responsibility, so check.

Phones near water

Water and phones don’t mix. On water activities, leave your phone locked up unless your provider has a safe way to carry it. A waterproof pouch helps, but it isn’t foolproof, so don’t rely on it for an expensive phone.

Photos

If you want photos, ask whether your provider takes them. Many have a photographer or a camera. It’s often easier and safer than taking your own.

Car keys

Keep car keys in the locker or with a trusted person. Don’t leave them in a pocket during a water activity.

Keep your insurance in mind

Check whether your travel or home insurance covers belongings on an activity day, and what you’d need to do if something is lost.

In short:

  • Leave valuables at home
  • Use lockers and ask what the provider offers
  • Keep phones away from water
