What should you wear for white water rafting? Wear swimwear or quick drying layers under the kit your provider gives you, and bring dry clothes for afterwards.
This guide gives general information only. Your provider will tell you what they supply and what to bring, so always follow their instructions.
What you’ll usually be given
Most providers supply a wetsuit, a buoyancy aid and a helmet, and many supply a waterproof jacket and footwear too. Check this in your booking email so you know what’s missing.
What to wear underneath
Wear swimwear or quick drying sports clothes under the wetsuit. Avoid cotton, because it stays wet and cold. A thin thermal top under the wetsuit is a good idea on a cool day.
Footwear
You need shoes that stay on your feet and can get wet. Old trainers or wetsuit boots work well. Flip flops and sliders come off in the water, so most providers won’t allow them.
What to leave behind
- Jewellery, watches and anything that can snag
- Phones and keys, unless your provider has a waterproof way to carry them
- Contact lenses can be fiddly, so ask if glasses straps are available
What to bring for afterwards
- A towel
- A full set of dry clothes, including socks and a warm top
- A bag for wet kit
- Water and a snack
- Sun cream, because the glare off the water catches people out
In short:
- Swimwear or quick drying layers under the wetsuit
- Secure shoes that can get wet
- Dry clothes and a towel for afterwards
